  • Neanderthal Museum

    A museum equipped with cutting-edge technology, it explains topics such as the origin of the world, the evolution of humans, fossil findings in Krapina and a detailed reconstruction of Neanderthals and their way of life, all in an interesting and interactive manner.

  • Old Town

    The mediaeval fortress-town of Krapina was built on a hill at the foot of which modern-day Krapina stands. A two-floor building that was partitioned in the 19th century survives out of what was once the entire fortress complex, and this building now dominates the town. The Krapina fortress was built to serve as the central point for defending the border towards Sutla.

  • Town Gallery

    The Majcen family house, who were well-known lawyers, today houses the Krapina Town Gallery and was built in the second half of the 19th century in the neo-classicist style. The house is representative of the period and also holds historic value because it was a gathering place for famous figures of the historical Croatian Illyrian movement.

  • Church of Our Lady of Jerusalem

    The Church of Our Lady of Jerusalem is a pilgrimage church built in the 18th century in order to safeguard a small statue of the Virgin Mary that was brought from the Holy Land in 1669. Following Trsat and Marija Bistrica, Krapina is Croatia’s most important pilgrimage site.

  • Franciscan Monastery

    The monastery holds a rare collection of church artwork and a library founded in 1650 that contains many rare books, the most significant of which are three incunabula. Each year in early May a festival of religious music is held, known as ‘Krapinafest’.
